We welcome Chase, Zackary, Charlotte and their families to the room and sadly say goodbye to Liam, Izak and Samuel who have moved to Butler 2 and Zoe who has left the centre. It is wonderful to see how the children’s language and communication skills have developed over the last couple of months. Firstly, the children have shown great interest in farm and wild animals. They now recognise many animals and use words to say what they say. This has flowed into songs and stories about animals where the children attempt to combine words together to describe what it is they see or the action words to a song. They also enjoyed experimenting with paint to make sheep and lions. Lately we have been focusing on recognition of body parts after children showed interest in the animal’s eyes, ears, mouth and legs etc. Most children can identify their own and others body parts. They sing and use actions to the songs, “Heads, Shoulders, Eyes and Ears”. Along with this the interest, the children have experimented with paint on their hands, fingers and thumbs to make handprints and a pasting experiences where cut out eyes, nose and mouth are placed on a paper plate face. Its been great to observe how the children can identify where these parts are located. Throughout the day the children are encouraged to use their words during all activities and routine care. Just a reminder to parents to please include a named coat and spare clothes in your child’s bag. The outside area can be very damp and muddy. Barb, Tracey, Kaitlyn
